The Lady Surge lost 5-0 against Owens Community College and fell 4-3 to Delta Community College to drop the first two games of the 2012 season.
In Saturday's loss to Owens, the Express seized control early with a goal in the opening minutes and did not look back beating the Surge 5-0.
"We did not come with enough energy to begin the game and looked flat out there. Owens is a quality team. We have to learn from this game and move on," head coach Wil Cagle said.
Returning to action Sunday at Delta, the Surge fell just short of an incredible comeback in the second half.
Falling behind 3-0 at the half, Coach Cagle made a switch in net by inserting Purcell Marian graduate Kelly Luck after starting keeper Miranda Estep struggled.
According to Cagle, the move gave the team a bit more confidence and energy in the second half as Allie Higgins, Brittany Bollmer, and Danielle Galbraith each scored to narrow the gap.
"We came out with way more energy in the second half. I felt we outplayed our opponent. We simply just ran out of time to score that 4th goal," Cagle said after the game.
Next up for the Lady Surge is a road trip to play Kellogg Community College on Saturday, Sept. 8 followed by a game at Muskegon Community College on Sunday Sept. 9.
