Cincinnati, OH---On a wet and soggy Sunday evening, the Cincinnati State women's soccer team claimed its third straight victory with a 4-0 win over Lake Michigan College.
Freshman Brittani Abner opened the Surge scoring in the 3rd minute, converting off of a set up from teammate Julie Martin. Abner would return the favor in the 27th minute setting up Martin for a goal to give the Surge a 2-0 lead. Martin, who leads the team in points (22) and goals (10), scored her second goal of the game in the 36th from 30 yards out. Freshman Hayden Bentley scored her first goal of the season in the 72nd as the Surge improved to a 7-4 overall record.
Seeing relatively limited action, Cincinnati State keeper Kelsie Lee was called upon to make just two saves en route to her fourth shutout performance of the season. Lee and the Surge defensive unit have not given up a goal in the last three contests.
The Surge, which are currently battling for the fourth and final spot in the regional post-season tournament, will travel to play Schoolcraft College next Sunday at 3 pm. Earlier this season, Schoolcraft beat the Lady Surge in overtime.
