Benton Harbor, MI---The Cincinnati State women's soccer team ended a 3-game losing streak with a 2-1 win over Lake Michigan College on Sunday.
Opening the season with 3 straight wins followed by 3 straight losses, Cincinnati State faced an early deficit when Lake Michigan's Kayla Mahler scored in the 6th minute. Freshman Jami Pfeifer would even the score at 1-1 in the 25th after taking a through ball from Brittani Abner and finding the back of the net.
The Surge generated multiple scoring chances throughout the second half but did not capitalize until the 83rd minute when Brittani Abner took a pass from Deandre Criddell and beat the LMC keeper with a shot that deflected off the far post and in.
While only making one save in the game, Cincinnati State keeper Kelsie Lee denied a LMC attempt from 20 yards with a diving save to help preserve the victory.
"It has been a long week, 4 games in 7 days. With the injuries we have had it has been a tough run," Head Coach Wil Cagle said. "It was good to end with a victory and it will be good to get some rest."
With the win, the Lady Surge improve to 4-3 overall with a 3-3 record in Region XII competition. Lake Michigan fell to 1-4-1 with a 1-2-1 in the region.
The Surge return to the field on Saturday when they travel to play Delta College at 4 pm.
