2022-23 OCCAC Women's Basketball News
Owens Community College Athletics has earned the 2022-23 OCCAC All-Sports Award, its eighth such accolade all-time, on the strength of three league championships this past season. The Express finished as runner-up in 2021-22 after claiming the top spot in seven of the previous 10 seasons.
All nine league institutions are represented in the OCCAC All-Academic accolades for Spring 2023. Honored student-athletes achieved a 3.30 GPA with 12 completed credit hours during the spring semester.
With postseason basketball in full swing, the Ohio Community College Athletics Conference announced its 2022-23 annual basketball awards on March 9.
Repeat honorees Devin Haid (Cuyahoga) and Hayley St. John (Owens) closed out the 2022-23 regular season by snagging another OCCAC Player of the Week accolade. Haid now owns three such awards this season while St. John earned her second.
Three student-athletes were selected as the OCCAC Basketball Players of the Week for February 13-19, 2023. Edison State’s Ella Hoene and Devonte Curry each earned their first career honor while Olivia Howard of Terra State brought home her third weekly accolade this season.
Brooklyn Green (Owens) and Brandon Lane (Lakeland) each pushed their respective squads to a pair of victories en route to earning OCCAC Player of the Week accolades. Green is back in the spotlight after receiving the same honor earlier this season while Lane picks up his first and Lakeland Men’s Basketball’s third award of the season.
Two freshmen rose above the rest during the week of January 30-February 5, resulting in selection as the OCCAC Players of the Week. Camille Fultz (Clark State) earns her first career honor while Devin Haid (Cuyahoga) is now a back-to-back winner.
Devin Haid (Cuyahoga) and Lauren Perry (Lakeland) both gathered all the votes for this week’s OCCAC Player of the Week recognition (Jan. 23-29). Haid is a first-time honoree while Perry defends her standing with her second straight award.
Grades are finalized and it is time to announce the OCCAC Academic All-Conference honorees for the fall semester. A 3.30 GPA or higher while completing at least 12 credit hours during the semester is required to earn the laurel.
Lauren Perry and Jaidon Lipscomb, both representatives of Lakeland Community College, are this week’s OCCAC Players of the Week on the hardwood. The tandem and their squads corralled four wins in as many games played. The two programs are a combined 14-0 in OCCAC play and both sit atop the conference standings.
Manny Hill (Cuyahoga) and Olivia Howard (Terra State) are the latest OCCAC Players of the Week, each sweeping first-place vote. Hill is a first-time honoree while Howard defended her standing and is now a back-to-back winner.
Double digits were splashed across the stat sheets for this week’s OCCAC Basketball Players of the Week, Olivia Howard (Terra State) and Jayden Roberts (Lorain County), combining for two double-doubles, a triple-double and another close call falling a lone rebound shy.
Jesse Dixon (Edison State) and Brooklyn Green (Owens) delivered the gift of victory last week, both leading their teams to non-conference wins en route to earning OCCAC Player of the Week honors.
Trevell Adams (Hocking) and Briana Bunkley (Cuyahoga) were unanimous selections as OCCAC Players of the Week for December 12-18. Adams corralled the seventh such honor of his career while Bunkley, a freshman, hauled in her first.
Quante May (Lorain County) and Hayley St. John (Owens) put forth extraordinary efforts during the week of Dec. 5-11, each earning OCCAC Player of the Week status.
Jalen Barnes (Bryant & Stratton, OH) and Malorie Schroeder (Owens) were both unanimous selections for the latest OCCAC Player of the Week honors (Nov. 28-Dec. 4) after pushing their teams to a combined five wins in five outings.
