Cincinnati, OH---The Cincinnati State's men's soccer team begins its push for a league title and postseason tournament seeding this weekend with road contests at Lakeland and Cuyahoga.
The Surge, 9-5-1 on the year, is in second place in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference with a 2-1 record. A pair of victories this weekend would set up a first-place showdown with conference leader Owens Community College on Oct. 20 to determine the OCCAC championship.
"We need to simply play solid and take care of business this weekend. We have won the conference seven out of the last nine years and we plan on continuing the trend," sophomore midfielder Nick Merhaut said.
Cincinnati State defeated this weekend's foes by a combined 12-2 score in previous matches this season played at home. The Surge blanked Lakeland, whom they will face on Saturday, 4-0, and routed Cuyahoga, Sunday's opponent, 8-2.
A victory over either team this weekend will also clinch a berth in the Region XII tournament for Cincinnati State. Two wins could position Cincinnati State to host a first round tournament contest, which would be played on Oct. 24. The tourney semifinals and finals will be hosted by Muskegon on Oct. 27-28.
