Lima, OH---Cincinnati State sophomore Evan Bryan tied a school record for the lowest 18 hole score with a 4-under 68 as the Surge beat Ohio State University- Lima and Clarke State College on Saturday.
Playing at the par-72 Hawthorne Hills Golf Course in Lime, OH, Bryan tied a scoring record set in 2010 by All-American Blake Harpenau. Bryan came close to breaking it with a put that lipped out on the 17th hole.
"It is no surprise to see Evan do what he did today," Head Coach Scott Webb said. "He has always shown the talent to put up a low number. He has really worked hard the past year on his game and his mental approach which has helped him tremendously on the course."
The Surge, which shot a team score of 302, won the event by 11 strokes. Austin Kyle shot a 77. Jeff Wray shot his low round of the fall with a 78. Taylor Suggs rounded out the Surge scoring with a 79. Matt "Chappy" Nickoson, who's score was not used, shot an 80.
Competing as individuals, Cincinnati State's John McQueen and Chad Bialecki finished at 79. Eric Howard and Ricky Dumont shot 81.
The Surge, which have now won three events this fall, will travel to compete in the Owens Express Fall Invitational on Friday, October 4th. The tournament will be held at Heather Downs Country Club.
