Manny Rodriguez (Lincoln West/Cleveland, Ohio) and Max Lavisky (Lakewood/Lakewood, Ohio) have been named this week's Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) player and pitcher of the week, respectively.
Rodriguez, a freshman infielder, was named the OCCAC player of the week after hitting .421 (8-for-19) last week with five runs, one double, two home runs, four RBI, three walks and three stolen bases. In four conference games against Owens, he batted .333 (4-for-12) with two runs, one home run, two RBI, three walks and two stolen bases.
In 45 games this year, Rodriguez is hitting .429 with six doubles, three triples, six home runs, 31 RBI, 39 runs and 14 stolen bases. In 16 conference games, he went 19-for-47 (.404) with 16 runs, three doubles, one triple, five home runs, 19 RBI, 10 walks and seven stolen bases.
Lavisky, meanwhile, went all eight innings in a close 4-3 win over Owens on Saturday. The freshman right-handed pitcher allowed seven hits, three runs (one earned) and zero walks while striking out eight.
Lavisky is 9-1 overall this year with three complete games. In 51.2 innings, he has struck out 52 with a 1.57 ERA. In conference play, he is 4-0 with a 1.80 ERA and 30 strikeouts over 25 innings pitched.
Cuyahoga is currently 43-12 overall entering postseason play. They will take on the No. 6 seed from the Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) to open Region XII tournament play at 3:30 p.m. on May 18 in Battle Creek, Mich.
