Spring ’22 is an exciting time for the OCCAC as eight league schools are expected to compete in baseball and seven taking the field for softball. This past week (Feb. 21-27) saw multiple schools lead off their seasons, and with that comes OCCAC Player and Pitcher of the Week awards.

LAYNE CLAUDY | Softball (Position) Player of the Week
Edison State Community College
Claudy went 2-for-3 and drew a walk in four plate appearances at USC Salkehatchie. She drove in two runs and scored another of her own as the Chargers split the doubleheader.
COOPER NOEL | Baseball (Position) Player of the Week
Clark State College
Noel came out of the gates on fire, batting .500 (5-10) with five RBI, five runs and five walks in three games versus Ancilla College. Three of his five hits were of the extra-base variety, smacking two doubles and a homerun for a 1.000 slugging rate. The versatile Noel spent time in both left field and at second base, turning two double plays while in the dirt.
GRACE SHAFFER | Softball Pitcher of the Week
Edison State Community College
Shaffer tossed a 5-inning complete game in the Chargers’ 10-2 mercy rule win at USC Salkehatchie. She scattered seven hits in allowing a lone earned run (two total runs) with a strikeout.
JACOB SAVINA | Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Clark State College
Savina chewed up six innings in a tight 4-3 victory for Clark State over Ancilla College. He surrendered one earned run (two total runs) on six hits and a walk. Savina struck out seven batters in the season-opening triumph.
