Mia Cipriano (Lakeland) and Kennedy Ryan (Owens) are the OCCAC Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for April 12-18 while Bryant & Stratton (OH) maintained its stronghold on the conference’s weekly baseball honors with Torrey Roper (player) and Dustyn Lucas (pitcher) rising as the latest Bobcats to earn the distinction.
TORREY ROPER – baseball player of the week
Bryant & Stratton College (OH)
Roper is the fifth different Bobcat in as many weeks to win this award. The right fielder lifted his squad to a 6-0 mark by batting .526 (10-19) with four homeruns and four doubles. He was directly responsible for a whopping 22 runs, driving in 11 and scoring 11 himself. Roper saved his biggest highlight for last, smacking a walk-off grand slam versus Kent State Tuscarawas in a 16-4 run-rule victory to conclude the week.
DUSTYN LUCAS – baseball pitcher of the week
Bryant & Stratton College (OH)
Lucas worked 11 innings over two starts, including a 7-inning complete game against KSU Tuscarawas. He picked up the win in both showings after allowing a lone run for the week. Lucas scattered six hits and four walks while striking out four.
MIA CIPRIANO – softball player of the week
Lakeland Community College
Cipriano was stellar in a doubleheader sweep over Clark State. She recorded four extra-base hits in seven at-bats (.571) to slug at a monstrous rate of 2.000. Cipriano sent three balls over the fence and added in a double for good measure. She totaled five RBI and scored four runs.
KENNEDY RYAN – softball pitcher of the week
Owens Community College
The Express trailed early against Delta College when Ryan came out of the bullpen and steadied the ship. She tossed 5.2 innings and picked up the win as Owens came from behind to seize victory. Ryan offered up just one run on two hits and two walks while fanning a pair.
