The Lorain County Community College cross country teams competed in the biggest National Junior College Athletic Association Division III Meet ever and the women's team finished 5th in the nation, the highest finish in LCCC cross country history.
With 135 runners representing 40 schools, the Lady Commodores picked the right time to peak, as five of the six women ran their fastest 5K times of the season. LCCC was led by freshman Gabrielle Post (Avon Lake/Avon Lake), finishing 19th in 20:48. Sophomore Heather Wigton (Amherst) ran 36th in 21:39.
"It was just a phenomenal performance," Head Coach Jim Powers stated. "I knew we had a shot at a high finish, but they exceeded all expectations," Powers said proudly.
The men's cross country team finished the five-mile race in 23rd out of 29 full teams. There were 203 runners representing 46 schools. Freshman Micah Swartz (Lakewood) paced LCCC in 66th place with a time of 29:20.
